A Visionary Documentarian and Cultural Icon

Morgan Valentine Spurlock, a renowned documentary filmmaker, playwright, screenwriter, and television personality, passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 53. Spurlock leaves behind a legacy of thought-provoking and impactful films that have shaped the way we think about society, health, and the media.

Born on November 7, 1970, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Spurlock grew up in Beckley, West Virginia. His father, Ben, owned and operated an antique store, while his mother, Jean, was a teacher.

Spurlock's rise to prominence came with the release of his groundbreaking documentary "Super Size Me" in 2004. The film exposed the devastating effects of fast food consumption on the human body and became a cultural phenomenon, garnering critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination.

Throughout his career, Spurlock continued to tackle important social issues through his documentaries. Films such as "30 Days" (2005), "Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?"
